A royal wedding is nothing short of a global event. With the whole world watching every little detail, the bride and groom are practically celebrities! And it wasn’t any different when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married. The ceremony was ultra-glamorous and was attended by the who’s-who of the world.
But in what may come as a surprise to many, according to a recent revelation in Finding Freedom (the controversial book on Harry & Meghan’s life), the ex-royal couple observed their first wedding anniversary like any other “regular” couple in the world.
Gear up, and let’s find out more, shall we?
How they marked their first anniversary
Harry and Meghan got hitched on May 19, 2018, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. In 2019, a few weeks to their first anniversary, the family welcomed their son, Archie. According to the book, which is authored by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Donrad, Meghan’s mother was around at that time of the couple’s first anniversary. Well actually, she was there for Archie’s birth and the anniversary happened to be at the same time!
On the day, the couple enjoyed a traditional lunch with Meghan’s mother, and Harry presented Meghan with an eternity ring. Later that day, the couple posted a picture of their anniversary on their official “Sussex Royal” page on Instagram and, in the caption, thanked people for their love and support. The authors of the book claim to have sourced all these findings from Harry and Meghan’s close friends.
A look at some other bits from “Finding Freedom”
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Harry and Meghan) decided to let go of their royal status in January 2019, the whole world went into a shock. But when the reason behind their exit came to light, fans understood that the couple needed time for themselves and their family. Ever since they’ve dropped their HRH titles and Sussex Royal brand, the couple has stayed in Canada and California, and they are currently living in Los Angeles.
We don’t really have to tell you what happened when their second anniversary approached in May 2020, do we? Thanks to Coronavirus and global lockdowns in place, this year too, the celebrations were very private. According to the book, the couple received wishes from close ones via video calls.
What’s sweet though, is that most of the people they talked to were the key organizers of their wedding. Everyone reminisced about that glorious day, and after the calls, the couple treated themselves to Mexican food and margaritas!
Finding Freedom is the biography of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle. The book has been published by Harper Collins and was released on the 11th of August, 2020.
